Proxys and Passwords

I have set internet explorer  IE to use the astaro proxy (non-transparant).
I am then hoping that other applications can be set to the "use system proxy settings".
There doesnt seem to be a place though for the user name and password, so I found this page on the subject How to Change the Proxy Username & Password in IE 6 | eHow.com
It all seems to make sense until I try to do it and get -

Stored User Names and Passwords
---------------------------
Please retype your user name in one of the following formats:

username@domain (or username@workgroup or username@computername)
domain\username (or workgroup\username or computername\username)
---------------------------
OK   
---------------------------

What should I type for this?

    I think I'm still lost on your question, but I wonder if you aren't mixing two different kinds of authentication.  Like dilandau says, there's no reason to run anti-virus updates through a proxy.
