Filtering a remote device.

Hello Everyone,

I've found a few mentions of this through my googling and forum trawling but some of them were conflicting, so I'm hoping someone can give me a straight answer.

We're a school district and we're about to give out a few laptops with 4g modems for kids who don't have computers or internet at home so that they can do online learning on their own time.

I'm really struggling with a way to filter the internet of these devices, I know that M86 offers an installable client that you can put on the workstations that will read your filter rules and block sites accordingly.  Aside from setting up a VPN connection for the students (as we will probably be expanding this beyond the initial few) is there a similar solution for Astaro?

    At this point in time, the only available option for force filtering a remote host would be through an autostarting VPN.  The use of an Astaro RED device would also be able to provide full filtering, but if the student were to take the laptop to a friends house or the library (no longer "behind" the RED), then that protection would be lost.

    Astaro is currently working on a software "RED" client, which should provide the functionality that you're looking for, but there's been no information given on when to expect this to be released.
