Big performance problems with 8.201!!!

Hi Astaro,

we are using astaro gateway on dell boxes since many years with good results.

The last update from 7.5.11  to 8.201 gives us awful results. The webfilter (former known as web-proxy) is slow as in times of our modems. 

Many websites needs minutes to load (Nachrichten - Service - Shopping bei t-online.de e.g.). Websites from our customers with logins doesn't run anymore! We have installed also the last point patch for 8.201 - no change in performance!!

We have switched off virus-scanning - no change
We have tried  transparent proxy - no change

What's wrong? Is there an update coming within days?

    8.202 is very much worth it if you are running 8.201.  You can install the soft-release now, or wait a day or two for the final GA version to be released.

    Hey everybody,

    I installed 8.202 as soon as it emerged. My first impression is: Heyja, some bugs are gone (Internal Server errors and the like), some are still there (Loading a website fails with an error the first time and works after clicking reload..) and the performance seems to be slightly better.

    But it's still not as good as with 8.103. That release was super-fast and stable after putting the CF-DB into RAM. 

    8.202 again and again has problems loading some pages. Then my browser is complaining about the fact, that he's "Waiting for ..." site or "Request is being sent..". This happens for all sites from time to time - for about 20% of requests I'd estimate.

    Some background information: The virtual machine containing Astaro is hosted on a ProLiant BL460c G6 with Cores@2.533 GHz. It has 48 GB of RAM and is connected to a NetApp FAS3140 via GigabitEthernet/NFS. The VM itself has 4096 MB host memory and 4 virtual CPUs. We use two 34 MBit internet connections (but one is passive).

    Attached are two files, one is the current dashboard view and one is top displaying current stats.

    I've already read and implemented most of the preformance tweaks that crawled around the forums. The hint that helped the most was bringing the Content Database to local memory - that boosted the proxy quite a lot.

    Nevertheless, I read through your hints and realized that I had QoS enabled on one interface. Don't know why that was enabled. I'd swear I didn't enable that one. Disabling it didn't help, though.

    Going to check everything once again... Thanks for your hints.

    Hi Chris,

    in my opinion you should definately update to 8.202 - that update cures many problems.

    With regards to performance, the new update is only slightly better than 8.201. 8.103 was super-fast - much better than both versions 8.201 and 8.202. 

    We're still having performance issues with 8.202. [:(]
