Question about remote filtering

Hi All,

My apologies if this has already been asked.  I hope that I have made it to the correct forum.

I am a long time Barracuda user.  I have downloaded the Astaro software appliance and installed it on a spare HP server.  So far I am impressed.

The new firmware for some of the higher -end Barracuda Web Filters allows for a "policy lookup only mode."  What this means is that a remote client (say a laptop on the other side of the world) can query the Web Filter for policy and or blocking information.  This is done by way of an agent software that runs on the computer which is configured with the IP of the appliance.

There is no VPN here, and the local Internet connection is always used, the policies are checked against the Webfilter but no traffic is passed through it.  Very little bandwidth is needed.

Can this be accomplished in any way with Astaro?  Sorry if this is a silly question.  I am just getting started here with you guys and anxious to learn more.

    Regarding your question, we do have Astaro Endpoint security which was just announced, and will go on sale later in Q2. While the initial focus is around usb-port control and some leakage prevention, we do plan to add many features to this platform in the following months which will give much tighter integration to ASG and this type of per-user control for filtering. 

    A simple use case is a school which provides laptops and wishes to enforce the schools web filter policy when the laptop travels to the students home. 

    We are on it! Stay tuned.
