rotten.com & other extreme content

Hi,

I managed to protect my network with Astaro. P0rn is getting filtered out quite nicely for over a month now, but I've never tested other types of content.

About an hour ago it came to my mind to check if rotten.com is being blocked, and to my surprise, all of the content on rotten.com is visible, also other sites which rotten.com links to.

The "Extremistic Sites" category in the Filter is checked, so I really don't know what's going on. "Block URLs with a reputation below a threshold of" is set to "Suspicious" (setting it to "Unknown" doesn't help). "Allow content that does not match the criteria below." is also selected (I won't change this).

It scares me quite a bit to see rotten.com passes the filter since I thought that my 11 year old nephew had a well protected access to the internet (though he's not using it alone)

    You can check the URL here (select McAfee Smartfilter XL)...  this is the filter DB that Astaro is currently using: TrustedSource - Check Single URL

    You can also make re-categorization suggestions as well.

    that's a good hint.

    But I'm still having the problem. McAfee is categorizing it correctly, but for some reason ASG seems to be igoring it. Maybe it's out of sync.

    I'm now enforcing the use of OpenDNS on the network, which eases the problem a little bit.

    I'll be keeping an eye on this issue, because it also might be related to a network misconfiguration (even though this is pretty improbable since other sites do get filtered out just as expected).

    I have tested rotten.com on my ASG VM appliance V8.101 and it's working fine....

    Pls find the attached image.....

    Oh my... my mistake!

    I had forgotten that the IP of my main machine had a profile set up which was only blocking p0rn and nothing else... using the default filter by disabling the profile shows that ASG is filtering content as expected.

    So thanks rahul for the screenshot (seeing is believing), and BrucekConvergent for the link to McAfee.
