The "ping" test of online speed tests isn't a real ping test. In fact, the speed tests themselves are fairly meaningless where you have a proxy that scans for content and malware. There are tests you can run to calculate the overhead for each of the things happening, but the most-likely culprit for slow internet access is incorrectly configured DNS.

not necessarily as i've shown more than once....when it comes to the proxy there's more than just dns..usually it's not dns when the http proxy is involved. A wholistic approach has to be taken when troubleshooting in this instance.
