8.01: Avira "Failed to get scanner instance"

Hello Folks!

Something ssems to have broken avira-engine, maybe a defective pattern-update.

Out of the blue, clients are reporting, that the webproxy is returning this error message which can also be found in the http-proxy log:

2010:09:04-12:23:44 httpproxy[4889]: id="0003" severity="info" sys="SecureWeb" sub="http" request="0x94fcc00" function="avira_scan" file="avirascanner.c" line="380" message="failed to get scanner instance"

The current pattern version is: 20096

Can anyone else confirm this?

    Was this ever resolved?  I have same issue.

    Yes, IIRC it was fixed by a pattern update.
    However, to be updated, avira has to be running.
    You could enable dual scanning past office hours and do a pattern update manually.
    I would login to a console and watch the update processes or at least the up2date log.
    The last time avira was update on a machine that had been offline for a while it took a really long time (some minutes) during which the https/proxy was messed up.
