Definitely looks like an issue with the Avira engine; others have been reporting this sort of error with other downloads as well, this is just the first time I've been able to reproduce it.

Please be sure to use the full link since if you remove the http:// it goes over FTP which is not scan by AVs (for me). So I was able to download the file that way. But using HTTP is a big no no.
Not at this time, the virus detection and system performance of Avira is actually much better than most, including some of those you've mentioned. Although Avira has had some false positives, I (personally, not speaking for Astaro here) still have more faith in it than many alternatives.
Astaro used to use Kapersky; I find the Avira engine to be quicker, for sure (I think this is due to better integration tools / api as opposed to Kapersky). There have been a few more false positives since the switch, but, then again, I don't have Kapersky running on anything to compare it to... I understand Kapersky has had their share of false positives as well.
I actually recommend Avira for my customers to use on their home PCs (the paid-for version)... I like others for better mgmt, etc. in the enterprise / smb environment though.
