Web Browing Slowness

Hi

Currently, I "locked down" my Firewall with NO LAN -> Internet = Allow Rule.

This way, it is 100% via the HTTP Proxy which works.

But it is Really Significant slowness as long as I disable the LAN -> Internet Rule.

For DNS, I set it to use Astaro who in turn use Open DNS.

But I do not understand how come the browsing performance is significantly slower.

If I just turn on the rule, it simply is faster.

    This is just plain wrong.

    The 32Bit kernel makes use of PAE, which offers 52Bits to address memory which is a lot more than just 3GB [:D]

    But *single processes* can only make use of max. 2GB per process. Since there are a lot of these on an ASG, IMHO there is no need to worry ATM if you're still using the 32Bit Kernel.


    32 bit limitations which is well documented.  If you have 64 bit cpu there's no reason to not use 64 bit as if you expand beyond 3 gigs instead of screwing around with pae annd reinstalling to truly use your ram above 3.5 gig just stick with 64 bit then if or when you go above the 32 bit limitation there's no muss or fuss

    Hi All

    - Reinstalled 8.201 from the ISO with 64-Bit (Couldn't make myself do the 32-Bit when I see 64-Bit is aavailable, simply believe it will be better)
    - Reloaded Backup.
    - The System Downloaded about 600MB of that Database at about 1.5Mbps for about 3 hours.
    - RAM Utilization is at 53% of 3GB.
