CPU spiking after Web Filtering enabled

We just re-enabled web filtering after it had been disabled for a few months (no one remembers why) and since doing so our Astaro ASG320 (firm. ver. 7.405) has been experiencing CPU utilization spikes to 100% every 10-15 minutes or so for spans of several minutes. RAM usage climbs up to around 90% during these times as well. Traffic rates on the interface are low(

    turn on the feature you want to use and then reboot the machine.  sometimes a bounce is needed.  Also turning on https scanning IS going to break OWA.  I would disable https scanning.

    HTTPS is not enabled, about 09:30 yesterday we enabled the web-filtering, the spiking began immediately afterward, we disabled and re-enabled it in the afternoon to see if we could see any perfomance changes (our network engineer was monitoring TOP at the time), and finally disabled it and rebooted the unit at 17:00. The strange thing is that the performance spikes continued until midnight before everything went back to what we are used to seeing as normal.

    I'm baffled. Any ideas?
