download through proxy speed lower than without

Downloading when I have the proxy set to AV scanning is seriously decreasing my speed.

for example when i download directly without the av scanning page that comes up i get my max speed of 75-80 KB ... however when the web page appears that does the downloading it always says 10KB to 20KB.

another note i did notice is my eth1 (WAN) is connected via half duplex to my vsat modem.... its a realtek 8139.
i did force it through ethtool to full duplex:
