How to allow URLs with embedded port numbers

Hi all.

Forgive me if this is a question I *should* know the answer to, but I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to running a firewall and dealing with ports, forwarding, and advanced tcp/ip filtering.

I have a user attempting to get to site with an embedded url in it like this:

"someserver.com:8080/1234.5679.0"

It is timing out when going through the Astaro.  I can verify the actual URL is valid via my direct-connected machine.  We are using port 8080 as our internal proxy port, is this an issue?  Do I need to create a rule to allow outbound http traffic over 8080 (right now it is only allowed on 80).

Any help would be appreciated.

  • My guess is that this is getting blocked in your packet filter or the receiving server isn't prepared to deal with a port-8080 request.  What do you see in the PF log?

    Cheers - Bob
