7.501 HTTP proxy - throughput extremely slow

I just installed ASG Software version 7.501 on a P4 2.8ghz with 1GB RAM and two Realtek gigabit ethernet controllers for WAN and LAN. Everything else is working just fine.
I'm trying to utilize the transparent web proxy for AV scanning and caching, but with it on I am taking a tremendous speed hit.
With HTTP proxy off I get 26mbits down at TWC speedtest. With proxy on, I get 10. I've tried various combinations of settings for the proxy (turning off caching, disabling the access log, disabling AV scanning) but whenever the proxy is on, download speeds are slow. It's not only speedtests, but any download. No matter what I do, as soon as proxy is off, speeds go right back up to normal.
I've checked HW reports and CPU usage is never spiking above 40%, mostly its under 10%. (2 spikes to 40% in 12 hours and those were probably during upgrade and/or restarts)
Seems that my box should have plenty of power to sustain 20mbit downloads. Previously this box was working wonderfully with smoothwall. (came back to astaro after the home license chanages(thank you astaro!))
I can't be the only one here.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

    I have 30mbit FIOS and if I am I can pull two streams at 1.7MB each.  (More then two floppies per second).  That is what I pull if I am in the proxy or out.  I am running a very strong PC though.  Dual core 2.5 ghz (If memory serves) with two gigs of RAM.  So if you have the muscle, Astaro can do the speed. I am not using QOS... yet.

    If you are doing the speed test through the proxy, you will not get very good test results.  The proxy caches it, scans it and the passes it on. I have hit massive MB per seconds with my old proxy.  Made for fun screen shots to show off to my friends! [:D]

    i know that proxy can have an impact on the download speed but why does it slow down the upload by 40 percent? to tell the truth i only see this huge slowdown with speedtest so through the browser, if i connect to my server with winscp my up and down speeds are ok. i enabled qos now only on the internal nic to limit the download speed for some users and this way i don't have to pay the 10 pecent penalty but i don't have upload traffic shaping

    You're not the only one. I'm seeing the same behaviour.

    Yesterday we've got upgraded from 10/10 mbit to 100/100 mbit (fiber), and i tried some different speed test. When HTTP-proxy were enabled (transparent) i only get 20/20. As soon as i turned off the proxy i got almost 100/100 instantly.

    We're not using AV-scanning or IPS.

    Hardware specs: 

    HP PROLIANT ML110TG4 XE 1.86 with 1,5 GB RAM and a INTEL PRO/1000 PT QUAD PORTSERVER ADAPTER.

    Ethernet card (including builtin) and switches are all running on gigabit.

    Any solution to this?

    What version of ASG are you using?
    I had this issue after upgrading to 7.501
    After going back to 7.500 it seems to work better.

    Don't know if this answer was intended for me? Anyway, we're using 7.501. Unfortunately i can't go back to 7.500 to try in our environemnt, atleast not during weekdays [:)]

    When you say better, is there a big difference from 7.501, and still not acceptable?

    We had a lot of issues in 7.501:
    Randomly, web pages loading extremely slow, some time not at all.
    Some time my clients had to do some refreshing in there browser, in order to get the web pages.
    I talked to Astaro about it.
    At the beginning, the guy I was working with kept telling me it was something to do with my system, and that 7.501 have nothing to do with it.
    After downgrade to 7.500, (the same configuration) it seems all went back to normal.
    I'm working WITHOUT HTTP Cache, because 7.500 has serious bug that cause the Cache to keep growing.

    I couldn't find any info about it.
    Since my system is a full scale (500 users) system, and there is no way back (beside shut down and perform clean install, I would like to see some info about it first.

    I see, yeah, I'd wait too.  I'm only installing it at a few customer sites that need it badly to fix some issues, and some testing units.  So far so good, though.

    My Astaro box is still in build and test mode.  I will try to update this weekend and see what happens.  I do not have any speed issues through the proxy though.  

    The speed test sites are not reliable when using the proxy. If you want to see what you really get, try downloading the full sp2 for Vista.  MS has fairly fat pipes, so that should not be an issue for anyone except for the guy running fiber. It won't get scanned by the AV, but it will still be coming through the proxy.

    Using the file above, I will retest my proxy speed and post back ASAP.
