Hey guys,

Want to thank u for thehelp that you offer on the forum, also kindly advice me how i can block facebook btwn 0900hrs in the morning and 1230hrs and also between 1400hrs to 1700hrs , only allowing access diring lunchtime and outside the working hours

    Go to the HTTP/S Profiles section. Follow the flow chart on the Overview tab. Basically you create a proxy profile for Facebook. Then create a Filter Assignment reigning in when access can be granted. 

    IMHO Facebook is one of those sites that should be blocked 100% with no exceptions. It's not that we're anti-social networks or trying to keep people from goofing off at work....but rather Facebook has a horrible track record for virus and malware infections (usually #1 or #2 most unsecure site) and by allowing access, you are asking for trouble. You would not release quarantined emails tainted with a virus to your users once a day, so why would you let them go out and get infected for no really good reason other than being a nice guy?

    when creating the assignment filter do i need to specify all the i.p addresses of al the users to be affected by this filter or is ther a way i can just specify all of the at a go

    Create a network definition. It can be a range like 10.0.0.0/24 or 192.168.0.0/16. Then apply your filter rules to for that definition.

    I have blocked facebook via URL blocking but is there a way to block users getting to facebook via the numerous facebook proxies out there. It would be near impossible to to block via URL all these proxy sites.

    Well then it's a good thing that Astaro already has lists of those proxies in their web filter categories. 

    If you block those categories (anonymizers and proxies) in the content filter then that problem is mitigated.
