yahoo IM and google chat

Hi Guys,

recently i set my ASG router and it's working fine though i have blocked all IM except skype i discovered that clients can still chat via google chat and yahoo messenger. kindly assist on what else i should configure to block these chat facilities on the gmail site and also on yahoomail site.

    This is not something you can block with IPS because it's just regular web traffic.  You have to use the URL filter in the HTP/S Proxy.  I watched the Live Log when chatting on Google and saw a URL with 
    http://b.mail.google.com

    Sure enough, when I listed that in 'Always Block', chatting via mail.google.com was blocked.  When you figure out the way to block chat via mail.yahoo.com, please post that information here.

    Hi, BAlfson

     i have added the URL  but i can still chat on gmail. what other URL should i include i have the live log but can't see any other?.

    Does the Live Log show the traffic with b.mail.google.com being blocked?

    I have the IM/P2P set to block completely for those chats. We also block access to web based email with a few exceptions. I do know that when an exception logs into GMail or Yahoo, while the IM/P2P is active, it will get blocked as you get the dialog from Google that you can not connect to chat server. 

    We use SSO authentication to gain access to the web and that might be the difference as the Astaro can apply allow/deny based on individual group membership.

    atleast now with the b.mail.google blacklisted chat on gmail is inaccessible but guys can access mail which is very ok.

    Next am looking to do the same for yahoo hope it will work kindly post it here if u manage to find out how its done am very much on the look out

    I have jus discivered something else about blocking gmail chat , when i block 

    Google

    this onlyblock chat when a user is using IE but one can still chat when using other browsers like mozilla

    kindly help if u know the solution to this am also reseraching on the same !!
