IM Rules

Hi,

I am in the process of designing the rules for our new ASG220 FW.

So far all is well.  I have been able to create the Proxy Profile, Filter Assignments and Filter Actions to allow access to the Internet based on an AD group, along with blocking inappropriate websites.

I have even been able to set up the timings so that social networking websites are only accessible at specific times of the day.

Unfortunately I am stuck at enabling Instant Messaging for a specific AD group.  I have read through the few threads that have been posted, but unfortunately I am drawing a blank.

I have IPS enabled and using AD SSO.  I have enabled IM Control as we have the licence to use this element.  By default everything is blocked.

I tried adding exceptions, packet filters, NAT rules etc, but alas nothing worked.

If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.

    I'm not sure how much this helps, but you can use the SOCKS proxy for IM.
    You'll have to set each IM client to use the proxy though, and once a user realizes he has an open SOCKS proxy, he may abuse it.
