Bug [7.402]: HTTP Proxy blocks an file with 'Error processing archive'

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/openttd-0.7.0-source.tar.bz2
The content is blocked due to the following condition: The item you have requested is infected by a virus. It will not be downloaded.
Report: Error processing archive

This is not the first time this has happened. The only cure is to temporarily disable the virus scanner.

The exact error is:
 0xb2bf9528 avira_error_cb (avirascanner.c:79) name AV00000000 --> openttd-0.7.0/src/3rdparty/squirrel/doc/sqstdlib2.chm, category 2, level 0, code 29

  • Are you certain it does not contain a virus?  If you trust gentoo,org, then why not create an exception for A-V scan?

  • The question that comes to mind is, which virus exactly is 'Error processing archive' supposed to be?

    For me that looks like the virus scanner segfaulting.

  • I get the same thing when I try to download the Ant tarball from any of the mirrors on this site:

    Apache Ant - Binary Distributions

    Are you certain it does not contain a virus?

    Because with the Ant download, it doesn't error when I download the zip version of the file....

    Regards,
    Stuart
  • Stu, is the file extension of the non-zip version one of the 'Blocked file extensions' for the anti-virus scan?  Or, do you have .zip in any Exceptions?

    I guess I expect that IT folks often will want to download things that will make an AV scanner object.  Home users can create their own exceptions.  Business users can ask permission.  I think I'd prefer to have false-positives than false-negatives, wouldn't you?

    No, neither appear in any specific filter action nor the default action.
