Streaming issues with 7.400

Hi,

I'm having difficulties with Streaming Media since installing 7.400
A couple of users on our LAN are using Napster and some other web-radios.

The problem is: Some streams don't seem to work at all. It loads the Link into a playlist (no matter if wmp or winamp or any other software is used) and then just doesn't play.
The thing with napster: There you can listen to streaming music on demand. Well, it still works but it takes forever(2-10minutes) until a song finally plays after connecting and buffering - that was like 2-5 seconds before 7.400.

Scanning for streaming media is turned off of course (the button is turned on).

It just doesn't work at all...

    Link is working fine. No problems using 7.400 here. Have you added Media Streaming to your Packetfilter and if you are using Proxy also in " allowed Target services " ?

    no, why should I? It used to work before... it's running on port 80 and as you can see from the weblogs... the proxy does notice it...

    and what do you mean by "allowed target services"... I don't see such a setting in the web proxy...

    Here you can find it : Web security> HTTP/S > Advanced 

    Allowed Target Services: 

    In the Allowed Target Services box you can select the target services the HTTP proxy should be allowed to access. The default setting consists of target services (ports) that are usually safe to connect to and which are typically used by browsers, namely HTTP (port 80), HTTPS (port 443), FTP (port 21), LDAP (port 389), LDAP-SSL (port 636), HTTP Proxy (port 8080), Astaro Spam Release (ports 3840–4840), and Astaro WebAdmin (port 4444).

    Bypass content scanning for streaming content

    When this option is active, typical audio and video streaming content is not subject to content scanning. Disabling this option will effectively disable most media streams, since they cannot be scanned in a reasonable timeframe. It is therefore recommended to leave this option turned on.

    Ok thanks I found it but all of the mentioned settings above were already in place and working.

    So that can't be it.

    Another hint maybe: If I try to connect to that streaming radio ( MMS://DRADIO-WM.T-BN.DE/LIVE/DLF/DLF ) the client software does seem to connect and reads meta data like the station name and title and trys to play but it never receives any data to play. It just hangs in what seems to be an infinite loading process...

    The fun part is: the mp3-stream works perfectly fine. It's just the wma stream that isn't working. Napster also uses wma-files, but this works, it is just very slow. The radio stream doesn't work at all...
    Maybe that's because the astaro doesn't recognize the streaming media anymore and caches the stuff and trys to check it? that would explain napster working because you only stream one song at a time and it might be able to cache the whole thing and then play it after a long waiting time.
    On a never ending radio stream that won't be possible of course... So why is it not recognizing wma-streams any more? As I said: This started happening after installing 7.400

    In your original post, the last two lines indicate that the content filter blocked access to 63.241.45.57 because that site is uncategorized.  Apparently, the system is not recognizing the download as streaming media and content scanning is not bypassed.  That impression seems confirmed by the behavior of Napster.

    That would seem to me to be a bug.

    That would explain the wma stream of that radio station not functioning, but it is beeing recognized as streaming media as you can see from the logs in my first post.

    And Napster doesn't get blocked either. It just takes a couple of minutes to "buffer" the streamed files.

    My limited knowledge says enable uncatergorized (as TS doesn't recognize 63.241.45.57 and check your packet filter and see if that sheds any more light.

    hi all,
    doing a fresh install of the new 7.400 seems to be some problems in, 
    I can run my games and music stream too from the LAN clients only disabling the http/s web-security proxy.
    I've try all configurations as the previous ASG I have (7.306) but seems not working.
    So..waiting for some update.. I must disable the http/proxy to run all the things I like.

    Yes, Krcek, it does recognize the setup packets as streaming media, but not the actual sream itself; that's why it looks like a bug.

    I, too, am having trouble with streaming media since the 7.4 update.  The following seems to be the pertinent information:

    I believe this is a bug.  If you have a support contract, you should log a call with Astaro.

    well I'm only on gold support. so this is a pain to contact my reseller who then contacts astaro... will see...
