Content Filter "www" question?

Why does the Astaro (v7.305 in this case) block only site WITH "www" before the address and not without?

Under Web Security >> HTTP >> "Additional URLs/Site's to Block" I have:

 www,example,com

(when a user goes to www,example,com it works and successfully blocks the site. However, if a user goes to http;//example,com it allows the traffic --- ???)

Is this a bug / possible feature-request?

Isn't there a way to tell Content Filter that http;//example,com is the same as www,example,com ???

Thanks!

(I've used commas instead of periods as the Astaro message board converts the addresses to links automatically)

  • Here's the solution:

Under Web Security >> HTTP and in the "Additional URLs/sites to block"box entries must be added without "http" or "www" for all variations to be successfully blocked.

I.e. adding www,example,com ONLY blocks URL's entered with "www" prefix. Adding "example,com" blocks ALL variations of URL's, whether with "www" or without.

ASTARO >> Could this be a bug or simply something not documented in the Admin Guide?
  • This is not a bug.  I agree that it's an example of information that the writer of the dmin Guide has assumed that everyone will know.

    Cheers - Bob
