Blocking Sites That Are Allowed

I spent over an hour last night just trying to get Webkinz to work for my kid. Even though I had listed webkinz.com on the Always Allow URL list and listed all of the recommended host addresses as exceptions, it was still being blocked by the Content Filter. The only thing I could do to make it work was to uncheck the Games category entirely on the Blocked categories list and to remove Games from the Lifestyle category. So in other words, I had to open up my system to allow ALL games even though I just wanted to allow my kid to play on Webkinz. I feel this is a bug. If a site is listed on the Always Allow list, it should always allow it. My version is 7.302

    Hi,
    you can leave the games blocked and provide an exception in the allowed list in the users profile.

    More than likely you are only allowing the calling url as an exception. You need to look at the http log while you try to connect to the game site and identify which other urls are blocked and for what reason.

    I just found that a forum I was regularly accessing wouldn't allow me to do updates even though the forum was in the exception list. A quick check of the log showed it was being rejected as a web ad, so I found the site in the log entry and added the site to the allowed always list and bingo I can now access the forum without all the annoying ads.

    The thing is, that during that hour that I was working on it, I was checking the logs and the sites that it was kicking out were the ones I was adding to the Always Allow list and it still was not allowing them. I also added them to the exception list that told it not to do the content filter on those sites. But in neither case did it allow it to work always saying that it was being rejected due to the content filter that it wasn't supposed to be using for that site anyway. Like I said, the ONLY way I could get it to work was to allow ALL game sites through.

    BTW, this did not start happening until the last one or two updates. Until then, the site was working fine.

    I take care of a netowork for a school district and had the same problem. For some reason, that webkinz login goes to just an ip address. They must not have the dns registred to that ip address or changed it. Anyways, if you look in the content filter (http) live log, I just had it filter for my ip address and accessed the login while watching, it will show you the address that is getting blocked. It came up as 66.48.69.102 for me. Added it to the allow list and it was good.
