TrustedSource new webfilter?

SurfControl has been replaced with Secure Computing for categorization, and the 97 subcategories are not mapped to other names.  An added benefit is that under the new system, a site can be in multiple categories- allowing for more accurate categorization.

The "Industry" is moving fast...

First, Astaro has a well-written contract with Secure Computing- we have no concerns about the impact of the potential acquisition by McAfee.

I believe Astaro's choice of content filtering partners through the years has been validated by the market.  Astaro has chosen premier partners and the market has seen them as valuable properties.

Jack, do you happen to have a nice chart/list of all the categories and sub-categories as they now stand for a default install?

Since everyone is upgrading, you will need to review the categories and sub-categories.  We could not convert the old to new mappings completely for updated systems, so there are several sub-categories unmapped after update.  Please review the attached list of categories, corresponding subcategories, and unmapped subcategories- and configure your systems as appropriate.

Fresh installations from 7.302+ ISOs (available soon) will have all Sub-categories mapped to the existing 18 categories.

Note: you can check single or multiple URLs for categorization at Secure Computing's website, and suggest changes.  Select the SmartFilter XL product from the menu at http://www.trustedsource.org/en/feedback/url?action=checksingle

Ah, I have not had an opportunity to tackle that yet, I will try to get a clean install and test it.

This has highlighted an issue with the content filter. I assumed that 'Block access to uncategorised websites' would block access to websites that were not mapped to specific categories.

However, it *allows* all these unmapped sub-categories.

I suggest an additional tick box 'Block access to unmapped subcategories' as a feature request.

craigski: That is a great idea. It should also tell you what the sub-category is so you can mapped it to a category.

If not, I can upload my list later tonight.  This week, I did a fresh install from the 7.302 ISO on a test pc and remapped the categories using Jack Daniel's list.

Here's the list, based on Jack Daniel's file, compared with a fresh install of the 7.302 ISO.  Items in red are the new categories.  The item in blue, was an old subcategory that was moved to another section.
