we have two sites that are linked via IPSEC VPN , both sites use http/smtp proxys both are running astaro 6.
Now we want to upgrade both sites to astaro 7 and ive asked about why we have the proxy before and i was told it was for security reasons. We dont filter anything, users can go where ever they want, we have the packet filter stop what we dont want coming inside already, being that we have to specificially let it through.
If we arent blocking anything should we continue to use the http proxy ( we still want the smtp proxy). what benefit is there if we keep it in place. The only benefit i see with taking it down is that now i wont have to manually set the proxy anymore for special equipment that isnt governed by AD(active directory group policy).
Does the http proxy provide other benefits that i am not aware of ?
