Anonymous Proxy Sites

Is there anything in this log entry that I could look for in order to block access to these type of sites?

I guess I could disable the javascripts, but that would probably cause me more trouble than it would the students.


The site listed was properly catagorized for v7, but was improperly catagorized for v6.  I turned it in, and it has been corrected, but I am just trying to get ahead of the game instead of dragging up the rear constantly.

    You could block that site using the adult site blocking feature of opendns. I checked that particular site and it would have been blocked. You could use that in combination with Astaro's blocking features to enhance what Astaro does. You would have to set up an account at opendns but it is free. I haven't tried this specific feature with opendns, but I've been using their servers for quite some time now and are very satisfied. Let me know if this works out for you, I will want to try it too!

    I'm playing with this right now.  I'm not sure I am doing it right though.

    I went to the site, created an account, added my network, and selected some categories.  I also turned on the stats so I can see if it is being used.

    I have set the ASG v6 DNS proxy forwarders to the Opendns servers, and I have set the forwarders in my Active Directory servers to the OpenDns servers.

    When browsing to a popular adult magazine site, it comes right up.  no blocking there.

    But if I browse to some made up site, instead of getting the usual "No such site" from Astaro, I get a OpenDns labled page with a bunch of possible alternate sites.  So, it would appear to be using the Opendns site for DNS, just not blocking the categories I chose.

    Maybe it takes a while for the filters to become active.

    Will let you know if/when I get it figured out.
