Transparent Proxy usage

I'm trying to understand the usage of the transparent http proxy.

Would I be able to authenticate clients automatically over it without re-configuring the client's browser?

I've tried to activate this feature for such a purpose, but it does not seem to work. Any guidance is appreciated.

Transparent proxying doesn't support authenticated requests. If you want to do this then I recommend you block port 80 from your internal network, set the HTTP proxy to the appropriate authentication mode then setup auto-proxy discovery via WPAD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol.
