MAC OS X and HTTP Proxy Access

Hi

We are having issues with our MAC OS X 10.4 Suite (150 computers) on our Astaro 7.007 425a 2 node Cluster

These computers are setup with Novell eDirectory accounts, even though they do not have a Novell client installed on them (Too expensive)
They are currently setup in the same profile as our other Windows clients(That have Novell Clients installed), The profile is set eDirectory SSO and the MAC subnet as well as the Windows subnet is assigned to it.

The Windows machines work ok.  When you log into them and then open a browser you can surf the web and load multiple browser windows without having to log in.

However with the MACs it is different.  After you log in and then open either Safari or FireFox browser you are asked to log in to the proxy, which I expect, however if you open another browser window after logging in to the first one you are asked to log in again...  It does not look like its remembering your details?  We have students that need to open multiple browser windows to do their study, we can not have them having to login to every browser window.  [:(]

Can anyone help?

    I forgot to mention that half of the MAC OS X machines are wireless, the network for wireless is the same IP ranxch / subnet as the windows machines.  However the other half are on a wired network that uses a different subnet / range.  It is these that are having the issues.

    I thought it was an issue with IP routing on the different network.  However after restarting the aua service the local engineer has told me that the problem has gone away.  

    I am now wondering if it is an issue where for some reason the aua service, once collecting the user's details from eDirectory and allowing them through, is not then caching the credentials correctly, so when a new browser is opened it has to collect the info from eDirectory all over again??

    Does this make any sense?

    Well, Astaro has been tinkering lately with issues with the AUA Daemon, specifically with eDirectory issues... If you have a commercial license with maintenance (and it sounds like you do) I'd start a ticket with Astaro, if for no other reason than to get them to take a look at the log file(s) to help get it squared away.

    We have found why it is doing it now, but I am unsure how to carry on.

    It is only asking the user to login when they try to go to a site with Quicktime embedded into the page (Which I am told is quite a few)

    Is this because I need to allow a certain port or something?  All other streaming sites look ok, just Quicktime???

    Do you have an exception for .mov in your web content filter? Tried that?
