White & Black Lists

Is is just me, or does anyone else miss the whitelist and blacklist ability in the HTTP profiles?

Here at school we block games, but had a bunch of the "Educational Game" sites listed in the whitelist.  Can't do it now. Making them a global execption is not a realistic option, since that is by domain, not URL.

We had a few of the "Myspace" pages in the whitelist, but there is no way I can exempt the whole myspace domain.

If it's just me, I'll shut up and go back to v6.  If not, how do we go about getting them to put the http proxy back like it was?

    You can use regular expressions in the exclusion lists.  We use 

    .myspace.*

    you need the dot at the start of the domain as this tells Astaro that you want to use a regular expression

    Well, that's nice to know.  But, if you don't mind my asking, if you allow myspace through why bother blocking anything at all?  :-)

    But even this way you have still allowed everyone access to the myspace site.


    It worked great for us here the way it was.  I just can't grasp how this way is better.

    The surf filter lets so much through, and incorrectly stops so much that my old white / black lists were in excess of 100 sites each.  To use this system I would still need to enter the black lists but now I have to create over 100 global exceptions.

    Again, maybe I am just doing it wrong.  I really, really hope so.

    readding black-/whitelist to the http profiles is on the nearterm roadmap,

    Thanks.  Seriously.

    Since you don't appear to have any United States based K-12 schools on your list of beta testers I will volunteer our district.

    When it comes to administering the ASG here at school, 99% of my time is spent with releasing sites that the teachers need access to or blocking sites that get thorugh the filters.  The HTTP proxy was the main selling point back in 2002.

    Putting things back like they were would be a good thing.  IMO.

    Has this been incorporated yet? I am running 7201 and don't see where I can make a manual entry

    Have a play with the v7.300b. I find the http proxy function buggy, but at this stage it appears to just me.

    I have a let all profile which affects the default profile, so for the time managed profiles I had to build a let limited and let even less. Any change in the let all (nearly) profile is immediately reflected in the default, so I couldn't use the default as fallback block.
