How to Speed up the http proxy

I found by deleting port 80 from the allowed protocols in the HTTP that my web surfing speed has improved no end, I mean many seconds faster. All the other protocols are in place plus a couple of other for bigpond game arena. I have not added a packet filter rule to allow port 80 out. The dropped packets doesn't seem to have increased.

A huge improvement.

****something happened that caused the ASG to run exteremely fast and start using extra memory. I rebooted it, the http proxy is still running very fast, best it has for a long time. I thought I had removed the port 80 from the http proxy, but in reality I hadn't, just the ASG playing up caused the issue.****** IGNORE this thread.******

    What do you mean with deleted port 80? In the HTTP Proxy Profile? Or somewhere else?

    I might be wrong, it might be the new version of firefox, but it is playing havoc with the webadmin in both IE and firefox.

    I have just installed the firefox v2.0.4 and it might be the cause of the improved speed. I will update this thread after I have rebooted this PC.
    But even other PCs which haven't been updated are surfing faster.

    Strange, not sure what has happened as I the only change was to try and remove port 80 from the http proxy.

    If the above sounds confused,it is because I am confused as to the exact cause of the huge improvement.

    It doesn't work.
    The ASG had a heart attack, something caused it to behave strangely about the same time as I thought I has removed port 80 from the proxy.
    A reboot and deeper investigation found that port 80 was still active.

    In the end the only conclusion I can come to for the huge improvement is that Telstra/Bigpond finally found a network bug that has annoyed me and the WOW user fraternity for about 4 weeks.

    I've found the proxy works a good deal faster if you do not have a packet filter rule allowing http traffic out. The proxy functions regardless of this rule, and it seems to create some odd behavior that slows connections down. If you have a rule simply allowing all outbound traffic, then put a rule disallowing http above it in the packet filter.
