I noticed that in the last weeks the storage partition on one ASG120 (v7.004) appliance is constantly filling up with about 1,5Mbit/s. The filling starts close to the end of office hours at around 20:00 and ends on the next morning. At this point the disk usage dropps back to normal so most likely all the data is just squid-cache. This happens almost every working day. Most of the traffic seems to come from Limelight-Network servers which is a huge company for hosting multimedia-streams (myvideo, tv-networks etc.).
Http-proxy is running in transparent-mode.
I don't know how to analyze the log files properly, there are some things that just confuse me.
The daily exec. report tells me, that the firewall has processed 3,6GB of traffic (which is about 2400% ABOVE the usual traffic in this office). Yet, according to the top 10 section there hes been a total traffic of 20,9mb.
How can this be right?
I would guess that this behaviour is caused by the web-proxy trying to cache multimedia-streams. I know from the squid-log that in the evening some useres watch webcast of television-news. Maybe after that ASG spends the whole night caching the tv-stream?
I would really like to know what's going on because a completely filled storage-partition crashed the ASG last week. After a reset (and most likely the deletion of old cache-data) everything worked normal again and the data-partition was empty again.
Any help would be appreciated.
