Content Provider

The new surf control database is only used for V7, 

6.304 would still be using the original database links from the Cobion database such as:

http://www1.cobion.com/support/techsupport/urlcheck/

Running the check on the www.azurf.com site shows no categorization.  I suggested anonymous proxy for database improvement.

So... suggestion added to the categories for Cobion and I won't mention upgrading to 7.0 as its not what you want to hear [;)]

Well, since there isn't a current "upgrade" to 7 from 6, it would be a "Start all over with 7".  Since this is a production system servicing 2000+ user stations, down time is not an option.

Rumor had it that there would be a March release of a update to 6.3 that would save a backup that would import into 7.  This has since been changed to a rumor of an April release.

I am comfortable working with the firewall/packetfilters/SNAT/DNAT features of 6.x, and am using 7 at home.  Not real sure I want to make the jump at work just yet.  Too many people depending on the thing to work to have me trying to figure out the HTTP proxy while they are using it.

My hope is that once I can import my current configuration I will be able to make heads or tails out of this new HTTP proxy system.

And if V7 and V6 use different content filter providers, as you suggest, then Astaro needs to have two links, one for the V7 users and one for us V6 users.  

I went to the origional link I had for checking a url classification and submitted it as a anonymous proxy as soon as I saw it was unclassified.  They usually get back to me in a day or so with the outcome of the request.

Astaro's URL checker now shows results for both V6 and V7 databases.  Now just need to change the V7 categories in webadmin to match the new database...

I really just don't get it.  When we bought into the Astaro concept they were just in the process of changing over from version 3.x to version 4.  

As silly as it may sound, our main reason for going to Astaro was due to the integrated HTTP proxy, and the difference in price between their solution and our (at that time) current solution(N2H2).

When 4 was released the HTTP proxy was broken. And I had a very hard time convincing anyone at Astaro of that fact.  Eventually they were able to reproduce the problem and fix it. By that time they had already gotten a bad name here with the teachers/administrators in our school district.

And now the issues with going to a new content filter provider whos catagories don't match  those in the program we are supposed to select.  I understand that there are always issues with new, more complicated software features, but how about testing the existing ones before releasing any new ones?

It seems(to my bosses) that Astaro spends very little time actually testing the http proxy before releasing a new version.  I guess it is a very low priority as compared to .....  well, anything else.  

We are required by Texas law to filter the internet before allowing the students access. Thankfully, they haven't said how well it's supposed to be filtered.

I love V6, it's easy to use and I understand the features I use (notice the qualification?)  I really don't want to switch to anything else, but it's not my call.  The more crap that gets through the HTTP proxy the more likely the powers that be here at school are to demand we try something else.

Fix this, please, and put a few schools on your list of beta testors for the HTTP proxy.
