HTTP User Authentication & Firefox on Mac

I just enabled Basic User Authentication HTTP Proxy on my Astaro v7.002.  It seems to work fine on all the Windows PCs - A login dialog box appears.  But nothing like this happens on my MAC (OSX) using Firefox v1.5.  I don't get any sort of login screen.  Just a timeout error.
