Can I remove Nortan Antivirus

I am in the processing of setting up astaro v7 in my home. I have norton internet security 2006 on all our computers, including 2 computers for the my kids. Once Astaro is up and running, do I still need norton internet security? It would be nice to get Norton off my PCs. With Anti-virus on the firewall instead of the PC, it can't scan my files on the hard drive. Is this a big deal?

I wouldn't get rid of the antivirus on the workstations.. The astaro won't prevent you getting a virus by one of your kids putting in a floppy, USB stick, or CD that has a virus on it.

Get rid of the bloatware formally known as Norton Internet Security and buy Norton AV. Bruce is right though. Desktop AV is a must

I agree with both post replies. ASG is good for first protection but there are other ways to get infected. My personal experience is that kaspersky is a very good AV and malware protection.

As the others have mentioned, you will want to keep some sort of desktop AV.

It's part of a concept called Defence in Depth. For any necessary part of your security posture, you never want to leave yourself with a single point of failure. Another advantage is that since AV vendors work on their definitions independently, one vendor may protect you from a new threat that another may not be able to find for hours to days.

As an alternative to Norton, I've had good experiences with the free home version of Avast .
