Windows Update

I have a problem using the windows update feature of my company's windows xp clients. I get the classic activex error from microsoft, even if I list microsoft.com, windowsupdate.com and update.com to the HTTP proxy exception list. I am using v.7001.
Any help will be appriciated.

    Yes, unfortunatelly I am sure and I cannot bypass the proxy filters as I am not using HTTP proxy in transparent mode.

    Hallo,

    I had the same problem, I have in Web Security -> HTTP -> Exeptions -> Edit Microsoft Windows Update - here the parameter "Authentication" is not as Skip signed per default, I have marked this option and then MS Update was not a problem.

    I have v7.002 with HTTP Basic user authentication enabled.  My windows Update exception is setup as:
    Skipping: 

    • Authentication
    • Antivirus
    • Extension blocking
    For Target Domains: 

    • update.microsoft.com
    • windowsupdate.com
    • microsoft.com

    With this config, some of the windows updates worked.  But there were few that did not, I tried several times.  They are:

    • Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
    • Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - March 2007 (KB890830)
    • Update for Windows XP (KB929338)


    I added my computer (as a host) to the Transparent mode skiplist and the three updates above that didn't work before now worked.  The last update I had to try twice before it installed.

    I don't want to have to add my computer to transparent mode skiplist all the time.  I really want the updates to run automatically every night.  There must be something going on in the skiplist that the Windows Update exception is missing.  How can I fix this?
