stupid content filtering errors

A loooong itme ago(i think it was v5) i psoted about some content filter errors that just don't make sense.  Well here's another:

classified as....Illegal Drugs

hello?  who is running the classification system??

    It is still Cobion, and you can use koma's link above not only to check the categorization but also to submit change requests if you think that the categorization is not correct.

    If you think about the size and speed of change of the 'net it's self-evident that it is not possible to categorize everything manually. Doing this work automatically is error-prone. If you find an error, submit a change request. It won't take longer than complaining about it here.

    Normaly takes less then 24 hours till they update the db, after an request.

    That's nice..considering my custom but solution i have been sending to clients has a much higher accuracy rate and doesn't have half the system reqs of astaro right now.  V7 is still a problem.  I'll keep it on a testing hard drive(like i did v5) and once a new up2date is out i'll try it again..[:)]

    I have similar problems. For example when I am trying to access go.microsoft.com, site blocks as category Nature / Environment / Animals. I have confirmed to the astaro url tester that go.microsoft.com is listed as software / hardware vendors. In addition www.gwool.com is not blocked at all, while it should be categorized as ****ography according to Astaro URL tester.

    How filtering actually works? How can I refresh the astaro cache regarding to CFFD? How filtering is updated?

    Nice try andreas..but using dan's guardian with blocklists from urlblacklist.com i am getting less than 1% false positives rate while astaro is upwards of 40% false positives.  Astaro needs to use a decent filtering service and not make excuses for their poor performance.

    I know this post is a bit old, but it is no longer true. It appears that they are using SurfControl as the filtering provider now. The Astaro link for testing a site on the Astaro home page now checks against SurfControl. I was testing v7 in production and I think this change is only for it; V6 looks like it is still using Cobion.

    There is another thread discussing this issue, but I see two big problems for us with this change. 

    #1. Surfcontrol only puts a site into one category (as far as I can tell.) Take www.blnk.com, for example. It is categorized as blogs and forums. But it is also a chat site, a personal homepage site, and a dating/relationship site under Cobion/ISS. That means that I can only block it if I block the one particular category that it is in. This was one reason that we left BorderManager with SurfControl.

    #2. Astaro has not updated the category mappings in the software to match those that SurfControl uses. There must be some mapping of current categories to SurfControl's categories on the back end, but it isn't clear to the user how this operates. I feel like I have no control over what is being filtered and not being filtered unless I explicitly whitelist or blacklist something. 

    It didn't bother me that much when Astaro changed AV providers to Authentium as a surprise; I saw the performance improvement right away. This bothers me, though, because it really fouls up a carefully tweaked filtering setup with no warning whatsoever. I won't say that "I'm going to some other product," but my renewal is up soon and I will certainly evaluate options more than I would have if this little surprise hadn't happened.

    OK, I am going to bang my head on the wall as I cannot undestand how Microsoft is categorized as Animals / Nature? Neither astaro URL checker nor cobion / iss are categorizing Microsoft as Animals / Nature...
