v7 proxy features

Hello 

I have following situation:

there is about 1000 pc on the network and I need transparent proxy for http,https,ftp,dns, imap, pop3 and sip protocols to work. there is no need for authentication since I have another box for firewall (fg500a). I am looking for caching only solution. I would like to test Astaro v7 but before I would liket to hear your opinion. Or if somebody can recommend something else then bluecoat.

    So basically you are using Fortinet for firewall,etc. and need proxy cache
    system if I understand? You could just install squid on another box to be proxy. Astaro is a firewall,etc so using as just proxy might not be the easiest
    for you. My take on it. Would be nice if fg's had a proxy. Astaro has all of needed features built into 1 solution though.

    Yep, just setup a Linux/BSD box and install squid and a caching name server on it. Astaro will be a bit overkill.

    imap, pop3 and sip you should just allow straight through since you can't cache those protocols, anyway.

    Yes, I agree that Astaro it may be overkill but if there isn't there any other solution, Astaro can be used as caching proxy.

    Sorry I cannot point to another solution then suggested action. Bluecoat
    is an appliance of what your cust seeks than use it. Astaro would work I
    think ( never put in transparent mode for firewall , proxy yes).

    Basically you need proxy features only, not firewall,etc? 
    Miss read your question. Blucoats are a bit pricey though for what you need
    are they not?

    Keep in mind that starting with V7 you can't use the caching proxy unless you also pay for the expensive "Surf protection" as well. I hope Astaro changes this.

    Then Astaro is out. I already decided on this. We will use Sun AMD box with their Proxy. All together, best buy as far as I was able to see in this 20 days quest for solution.
