Apple Issues

Hey guys and gals,

we have just installed and astaro proxy here at the college. Since installation all of our mac users have experianced a ton of issues. They follow:

- Itunes Music store cannot be accessed
- Safari cannot browse to secure sites (OS 10.3.9 Macs cannot use safari at all)
- Software update doesn't work
- Ichat and other software doesn't work

It seems to be a issure with https and the macs act as though the proxy information isn't being sent even though it asks for the information.

We've tried whitelisting apple and the sites associated with itunes but this didn't work, and we can't whitelist every secure site students might use.

Also, the problem doesn't effect Firefox or Mozilla browsers....they have their own built in proxy software and bypass the OS X's built-in proxy.

Any ideas would be great,

    If you are using the proxy in transparent mode you will need to add https allow, in the rules table.

    Sounds more like an issue where the software can't handle the ASG proxy downloader. I have a number of pieces of software that when updates are released I have to change the configuration so they bypass the proxy. I would love to put them in the don't use proxy list, but they have different servers each time. Also bypassing the proxy means reducing the security level by bypassing the virus scanning, which I would have thought for a school is basically a no no.

    I suspect the way to overcome the problem is increase the timeout on the offending software, but I have no idea on how or what you need to change.

    Did you get this resolved? 

    I do a lot of work with Macs, in fact, I carry a MacBook Pro. I'm sitting behind an Astaro 220 w/web content enabled. 

    What was the fix, or are you still looking for one?

    Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

    1) I did add apple.com and mac.com to the exceptions list and checked off all of the exceptions.  No change.

    2) IPS is not on.

    To use the iTunes store you need to create an exception for

    - apple.com
    - mzstatic.com (Apple uses this domain since a short time (mzstatic.com - Apple))
