Authentication and HTTPS

I have been playing with edirectory SSO and have found a strange behavior regarding authentication, the "Skip Authentication for Domains" setting and HTTPS sites.

If I put a domain like foo.com in the "skip authentication" list, I can access http://www.foo.com without authentiction. However, If I try to go to https://www.foo.com, authentication is required.

I found this while playing with running Windows Update manually from Internet explorer, but I have verified the issue occurring on other sites, too, so it isn't one of the classic Windows Update issues. I am running 6.300. Anyone else seen this or have a potential remedy?
