Problem with Cobion Surf Protection II

Still I have the same problem, the new patch does not work either.

I am thinking of having the Cobion DB in local which will:
1. It will save my problem.
2. It will not eat something from the bandwdith.

Regards

  • Yeah, it would be too big for any IDE drive out there... think SAN....  [:)]

  • Hello Friends,

Well I have an 80GB, it seems that about 70 GB is free now.

So you mean it is possible BUT require a huge size of the harddisk. If yes, I may ask you for only the spyware sites DB or the nudity sites DB.

    Hearing from you soon.
  • I'm still having problems with it too... logs indicate cobion connection is timing out.. I've started service ticket with Astaro.. we'll see where this goes.. I'm running 6.102.

  • Dear Friend,

Please make sure that you have a public (real) IP in your WAN side, since the new patch works only with public IP not with Private IP.

Feel free to chat together through Yahoo "eng_ali1979" or MSN "wee_aliismail@hotmail.com"

Hope to hear a good news.
  • Why does it only work if you have a public IP on the Wan side.  I have my web filtering done internally so that isn't a possibility for me and I'm still having problems with poor performance going through the web proxy.  I wish I could go back to Version 4 where it was simpler and more efficient.  Never had this much trouble with the proxy on ver4.
  • I have 32 static IPs, all public, on a T1 connection.  Astaro support is working with me on this issue now.

  • We are using a multi-home router in front of the firewall which is doing the NAT, no way to put a official ip address on the internet interface.
why ist this a problem for the surf protection.....

    Regards, Lars
  • We should, at least, be able to have the option to house the Cobian DB locally.  Other surf protection software/appliances offers it.  The performance hit we take referrencing an offisite DB is too much.
  • The performance hit would be nearly the same or even higher, when you house it local. Its the query that takes the time, not the transport via the network. Transfer is at an average of 2 x 200ms, that is not even half a second.
Even from singapore, I never get a worse connection than 230ms.

    Chris
  • I can possible buy nearly the same but higher is obsurd.  You mean to tell me that referencing a DB offsite would be faster than if it stayed on your network.  No matter how fast your connection is, that is just not true. Some may not have as good of performance connecting to the DB as you do.  My point is to give the user the choice and choose which one would best suit your individual network.
