[6.001] HTTP Virus Scanning

May be I am being paranoid, but it seems as though the HTTP Proxy is intermittantly scanning files. When I go to www.symantec.com/downloads and try to download an intelligent update for my desktop antivirus (this is usually a 10MB download) I don't get a download status page I just get the file. This happens on IE and Firefox. I will remark that windows updates don't hang anymore which is great. I don't have those domains whitelisted in the HTTP Proxy and I have the proxy in standard mode - there are no packet filters enabled for HTTP, FTP or HTTPS so I know I am going through the proxy. Has the HTTP Virus Scanner Proxy changed? Or am I just being paranoid.

    I've noticed similar bahavior with 5.x. Larger files seem more likely to get the Download-Scanning-Done page than small files, but there doesn't seem to be a hard threshold (Just downloaded FireFox 1.05 at 4.6MB and got the downloader page), havn't spent time trying to identify one however.

    I know by default on v5 files 1mb and below are downloaded in the background and no download status page is presented. But the file I downloaded was approximate 11.5MB and I got no download status page.

    wether the download progress bar appears also depends on the content-type of the content and on the user-agent. note that although the progress bar does not appear the content is still being scanned before it is sent to the user.

    Then why does the progress bar show up in version 5.2? I also noticed that the progress bar in version 6 does not refresh properly. It sticks. Version 5 flows better. This was tested on an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ with 512MB of RAM and 40GB hard drive.

    In V5 the status page was reloaded much too often, I think, all that flickering of reloaded GIFs and JPGs was annoying. I like the intervall of V6 more although you don't see the download's progress at once.
