I work at a boarding school.
We use content filtering (via Astaro) to stop students from seeing porn.
The AOL browser bypassed the content filter.
Students flock to AOL browser for porn-related purposes.
I block AOL browser traffic. (ports 5190-5193)
AOL browser goes away. Very happy.
AOL Instant Messenger also goes away. Not so happy.
both the headmaster and assistant headmaster have teenage daughters.
teenage daughters use AIM constantly.
teenage daughters threaten fathers with great harm if AIM not restored.
fathers ask me to allow AIM but block AOL web browsing
I call AOL. they are amusing, but not helpful.
They tell me that all AOL traffic goes through same ports. (they sounded unsure, I'm seeking confirmation of this.)
So... what to do? I -think- I could make the AOL ban permanent, but I might get voted down.
