HTTP Proxy stops working

Maybe a broken HTTP Proxy Cache. Try to flush it.

I've tried it many times - did not help...

It's possible the system is running out of memory.

How much RAM do you have?

I've 512MB of ram, and the maximum ram usage was about 380MB.

But the situation has changed, because yesterday it stopped during the day. So it stops not only when in "idle".
I've checked all of the logs - no error messages. Just stops working. Strange...

And my users becoming to hate Astaro. [:(]

Nothing in logs? Anything on the local screen?

I have no local screen, this is an appliance.
I have not checked the serial console.
But meanwhile I've received a response from Astaro Support. They know about the problem, and they are working on the solution, it will be in one of the next up2dates.
Workaround: switch off the content filter.
So I try it.

I have a 5.101 installation that does the same thing and have had the US support guys looking at it for over two months.  No mention about a fix for this from them. They suggested I try new RAM, but this is the second computer I have the ASL installed on and the problem is the same.  Whatever it is, I don't think it's the hardware.

The system is a 3.0GHz P4 with 1Gig of RAM and is only being used as a HTTP proxy.  No traffic passes this box except for web browsing.  The box is always responsive, the HTTP proxy just stops passing traffic.  Back when the Report|Network graph still worked you could see that when the school lost internet access the taffic on the outside interface went to zero. Restarting the box is the only thing I have found that will make the proxy start passing traffic.

 Turning the proxy off is not an option as we are required by state law to have all student internet access filtered.  I was going to try another computer ( the third ) to see if that fixed the problem, and if it did not I was going to re-install ASL 4 to get my IT director off my back.

As it is now, we have to restart the ASL box EVERY SINGLE DAY to keep internet access up and going. Some days it requires a second restart during the day.

If they do know about it, and there is a fix, I sure hope they release it soon.  People at work are starting to drop the "taro" when they mention our firewall.

same here .. We've got this problem with two firewalls at different customers
where in both cases no website is reachable - except the ones on the whitelist ..
-> Happens in different time intervals ..
-> Nothing unusal in Proxy-Logs ...
-> After restarting the ContentFilter / Proxy the whole thing works again.
-> Both ASLs have this problem after upgrading to 5.101 ... hmm

I ma using the http proxy in transparent mode with content filtering and have ot hit this issue.  Is using transparent mode an opiton as a workaround?

What type of operation mode does the proxy run?
