{ver.5.021} Non-Anonymous FTP sites

We are using winXP as our end nodes and experiencing problems with accessing FTP sites in general.
A friend advised me to uncheck the option "Enable Folder view" in the advanced menu of internet options, and that solved the access to Anonymous ftp sites. My problem now is that with that option unchecked, we actually transformed the Explorer shell to simple mode, and I no Longer have the option to "Log on as..." in the file menu, which leads me to an "access denied" on non-anonymous FTP sites.
Does anyone knows a correction for this, I would really like to work in native mode (with the option checked), and to have access to all ftp sites through proxy.

    It doesn't work. the problem is, and it is well documented by Microsoft (I only found it today), is that with the "enable folder view" tab checked, the GUI of IE becomes regular windows and not IE and then the computer overrides proxy settings and tries to access the site directly (which is not possible because of firewall limitations).
    Still I try to access ftp sites through third party Browsers/Applications. 
    Anyone has Recommendation?

    web borwsers are going to be a "fun" way to access non-anonymous ftp sties.  I would sugggest something like ws_ftp LE which is a dedicated ftp client that is very easy to use and wil handle this without issue.  I can e-ail you the file if you would like..[:)]

    problem with a 'real' ftp-client is that it's unable to use your proxy and needs direct access.
    in that way you are not able to use the http-proxy antivirus feature and need seperate packet filter rules.
    i think kronatus wants explicitely go through ie
