Does virus protection for Web stop spyware ?

I wonder if virus protection for HTTP is also stopping spyware ? I don't mean spyware that are part of a freeware/shareware but spyware that automatically install themselves when you surf on certain web sites.

don't think so. It matches against the standard virus pattern only.

Hi,

i tried it with a ".dll" used for the "Cool Web Search" Startpage redirector. The AV did not catch it [:(]

It would be nice to be protected from all those Browser Hijackers. At this moment you only could hope that your IE is patched and that Cobion filters the Download ("Suspicious_and_Uncategorized") of the Hijacker.
