For anyone having problems authenticating against Novell eDirectory here is what I ran into and what it took to get it working. First off, try using a tool such as Softerra LDAP Browser or ldapsearch from the ASL console and see if you can bind to it using a query username and password. My problem is that I could only do unauthenticated binds and when I tried using the administator username and password it would not bind. After a lot of poking around with the companies Novell admin here is what fixed it and some other details:
ASL 5.011
Novell Netware 6.5 revision 01
Novell eDirectory 8.7.3
In ConsoleOne goto the LDAP server object properties
Click on the SSL/TLS tab Put a check mark in the "Disable SSL Port" box
Click on the general tab
Click on the "Refresh LDAP Server Now" button
After that we could then authenticate with the Astaro and the Softerra browser/ldapsearch could bind with a username and password.
Hope this helps anyone out there pulling their hair out with eDirectory authentication.
