SSL VPN Client - TAP-Windows Adapter 9

Hello everybody,

We recently update our Sophos UTM SG210 to firmware 9.310-11 and since this day, we're downloading the Sophos SSL VPN client package, we noticed that the network adapter created is different than before because it is now written: "TAP-Windows Adapter 9".

When looking to the link speed of this adapter when it is connected, it shows "100 Mbps". Before the firmware update, the name of the adapter was not "TAP-Windows Adapter 9" but "Sophos SSL VPN Adapter" or something like that and its link speed was "10 Mbps" which was perfect for the use of Outlook Anywhere with "Header" mode.

Now with the change of the link speed, our configuration with Outlook Anywhere doesn't work anymore and we would like to find a way to have "10 Mbps" like before.

Do you have an idea of how to do that?

Simple. Install an older version of UTM into a VM, to get a copy of the older SSL VPN installer.

It's a workaround yes, but we would like to use the current User Portal for our users to retrieve the package. So it's not a "good" solution for us [:(]

Is there a command that can be added in the OVPN profile?

Have your reseller open a case with Sophos Support about this.

Could this be a coincidence - have you checked that things currently work correctly when you use an older client? What about when you download a new configuration for the older client to prove that the problem isn't the configuration file?

The TAP isn't a setting, it the driver software for the VPN virtual NIC in the client. Two different versions of the driver software, not just a name change. You can also try the original OEM software and see how that works for you. https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html

@BAlfson: case opened [:)] Things are working well when using the "old" client! I don't know why Sophos changed the adapter!

@Scott_Klassen: do you know why Sophos has changed the driver?

do you know why Sophos has changed the driver?
So that they could upgrade the client to a newer version from OpenVPN that has some bug fixes in it.

Certainly... I would keep you in touch about this problem. New adapter is not a problem, I just need to change its speed.
