VPN Client Problems

Hey all, have a strange issue I'm trying to resolve.

I'm using the OpenVPN setup/client.

When my users reboot their computers, and connect to the VPN, the routes fail and don't get added (no access to network, obviously).  However- if they simply right click the traffic light, disconnect, then reconnect, the routes are properly added and everything works. 

I would like to avoid the 'disconnect/reconnect' procedure- any ideas about why this would be happening?  Admin rights problems didn't make sense, the program isn't being restarted.  I'm not even sure what else to look for.  This is happening for everyone connecting (6 different users/pc's).  All Windows 7, some 32, some 64 bit.

    Except I'm not running Windows 8, the fix mentioned there doesn't work for me, and my issue isn't quite the same.  I could try using the OpenVPN client, but I don't really want to change the process for my users again.  Any other possibilities?
