VPN with two UTMs

Hello,

New to the world of UTM, we have currently used IPSec site to site VPNs.

We now have a UTM at each office and I am wondering if we can use the UTMs to establish the site to site connections? Someone mentioned using a RED to create the VPN, is the extra kit needed?

Thanks

  • Hi eclipse, and welcome to the user BB!

If you already have to UTMs, you don't need an RED. But, a Red 50 is cheaper, in the long run, then an additional UTM 120.

    Cheers - Bob

  • I think he means the RED protocol for UTM.

What do you think is better, site to site vpn between to UTM or configure one UTM as RED?
  • Sure you can. Set up a Site2Site Tunnel either with IPsec or SSL VPN.
Alternatively you can use a RED-Connection between the two (you don't need a separate RED, it's just how this connection type is called).

    Private Setup:

    • XG: HPE DL20 Gen9 (Core i3-7300, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) | XG 18.0 (Home License) with: Web Protection, Site-to-Site-VPN (IPSec, RED-Tunnel), Remote Access (SSL, HTML5)
    • UTM: 2 vCPUs, 2GB RAM, 50GB vHDD, 2 vNICs on vServer (KVM) | UTM 9.7 (Home License) with: Email Protection, Webserver Protection, RED-Tunnel (server)
  • Yeah I know that I can do both, but I have no experiances with UTM as RED and wanted to know if there are any advantages to use RED instead of Site2Site.
