Site to Site VPN with Sonicwall

Hi My company is considering moving to using Sophos UTM, we currently have clients with sonicwalls, but can't get them to just replace once we switch.   With some sites, they have a hub and spoke vpn setup with 3 to 4 different sonicwalls

My question is if we were to start replacing the sonicwalls with UTMs can we configure the utms to connect to sonicwalls hub and spoke vpn configuration.

THe sonicwalls use IKE with preshared keys to connect to eachother.

Thanks

  • I would think that Sonicwall follows IPsec standards, so there shouldn't be a problem as long as you get the parameters to match.  The UTM uses only Main Mode, so, if the Sonicwalls are configured for Aggressive Mode, you will need to configure the Remote Gateways in the UTMs to be "Respond only."

Another thing you might consider is replacing their Sonicwall "spokes" with RED 10s or RED 50s with, possibly, the free "Essential Firewall" software in some sites.  That would let them manage everything from the "hub" UTM and would require no additional, annual subscriptions for either hub or spoke sites.  I bet there's a way to quickly "pay" for such replacements with annual savings on the Sonicwall subscriptions.

    Cheers - Bob
