RED or S2S VPN?

Hey all just curious.. is there a performance difference between two sites connected via two UTM120s with a S2S VPN, opposed to one of the those sites connecting to the other remote site via a RED?

I haven't tested it, but had an exchange a couple years ago with one of the devs. An SSL S2S using UDP Protocol should be about as fast as the RED connection. An AES 128 IPsec tunnel would be faster, but not strikingly faster.
