VPN clients on same layer 2 as local LAN

Has any one configured either the L2TP or IPSEC VPN to allow the VPN clue te to be part of the same layer 2 network as the on site devices? I used to do this with OpenVPN but do not see options or instructions for this with the IPSEC or L2TP systems in the Astaro/Sophos box.

I guess it would be ipsec0 - wasn't that listed by ifconfig?

I know almost enough Linux to get myself in trouble. [;)] I don't know if there's a way to use cc to make the necessary command line changes permanent. I suspect you will need to create a script that you run after each reboot. Hopefully, d12fk or da_merlin will see the thread and confirm one way or another.

Yep, ipsec0 doesn't exist. I guess I should mention I'm on v9 (9.004-33). I only get the ethX and lo interfaces when I run ifconfig -a
