windows 8 consumer preview

After upgrading a laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (consumer Preview), the remote access SSL VPN stopped working.
The message: "There are no TAP-Win32 adapters on this system.  You should be able to create a TAP-Win32 adapter by going to Start -> All Programs -> OpenVPN -> Add a new TAP-Win32 virtual ethernet adapter."
I have no idea how to do this on Win8.  Any ideas?

  • You would need to use explorer to get to the install directory.  There you should find a .bat file for installing the TAP adapter, if using the OEM OpenVPN package.  This has not been tested at all with Win8, so may or may not work.

If you're like most people that I've spoken with or read about, you will be extremely unhappy and frustrated with the Win8 experience overall.
